Exceptional early years care within a familiar setting.
Halal food is prepared on site, Islamic occasions are marked as part of the year, and children find continuity between home and setting.
The nursery at Salam Centre is built so that choice does not have to be made. A dedicated ground-floor wing with its own secure entrance, an enclosed garden, and rooms designed for early years rather than converted from something else.
It will be run by an experienced independent operator, registered with Care Inspectorate Wales and held to the standards expected of an outstanding setting. What the Centre adds is context: a building in which an older sibling attends weekend school and a parent may be studying upstairs.
How it works
Six commitments, and what each one means on a Tuesday.
Faith-led early years education
Duas at mealtimes, Arabic and Qur'an through song and story, Eid and Ramadan marked properly, and a steady focus on adab — how children speak to and treat each other. Not a curriculum bolted on, but the ordinary texture of the day.
Learning through play
Child-led, continuous provision in the Welsh early years tradition. Children choose, adults notice, and the planning follows what the children are actually interested in that fortnight.
Safe and nurturing
A dedicated wing with its own controlled-access entrance, no through-route from the rest of the building, key-person attachment for every child, and a settling-in process that takes as long as the child needs.
Outdoor learning
An enclosed garden used in every weather, with mud, water, growing beds and loose parts. Outdoors is a room, not a reward.
Healthy nutrition
Halal food prepared on site each morning, with children eating together family-style and helping to serve. Allergies handled individually rather than as a single 'special' plate.
Islamic values
Honesty, generosity, gratitude and gentleness, taught the way three-year-olds learn anything — modelled constantly by the adults in the room.

Places are offered in the order registrations are received. Registering costs nothing, commits you to nothing, and helps us size the rooms and the staffing before we open.
We hold these details securely and use them only to contact you about a place. They are not shared outside Salam Centre and the appointed operator, and you can ask us to delete them at any time.

Common questions.
We are appointing an experienced nursery operator now. Once appointed, they register with Care Inspectorate Wales and set an opening date — we email everyone on the waiting list as soon as it is confirmed.
The intention is provision from around six months through to school age, with wraparound care for older children. The final age range is set by the operator against their registration.
No. The setting is grounded in Islamic values and the food is halal, but families of any faith or none are welcome and will be treated exactly the same.
Yes. The operator is expected to accept the Childcare Offer for Wales and Flying Start where families are eligible, alongside tax-free childcare.
It has its own separate entrance rather than sharing the main doors, a controlled-access lobby, and an enclosed outdoor area with no through-route from the rest of the building.
An established independent provider, appointed through an open process and holding the CIW registration in their own name. Salam Centre is the landlord and partner, not the employer.
At minimum the National Minimum Standards for Wales — 1:3 under two, 1:4 for two-year-olds, 1:8 for three to seven. The operator's proposals on exceeding those are part of how we are selecting them.
Around seventy spaces on site with family bays near the nursery entrance. No permit, no app, no circling the block at 8:45.
